Working Visitors at Midfield

Here at Midfield Farm we regularly welcome working visitors for 8 weeks or more.  We do prefer longer term helpers as it does take a bit of time to learn our way of doing things and to get to know the routine.  We provide comfortable accommodation in our 17th Century farmhouse with regular meals of good food providing a balanced and healthy diet.  We also give tuition in riding and all of our people leave here as much better riders with a more in-depth knowledge of horse training and management.  The farm is not in a town or village so there are not many opportunities for nights out or shopping so potential visitors should be prepared to read or walk and not expect parties.  Here are some of our former working visitors or 'slaves' as we fondly call them:

Tamzin Campbell from Scotland.  March to August 1998.  Tamzin studied for and passed her British Horse Society Stage 3 exams with us.  Here she is riding the last of our 'big' horses.

Line from Denmark stayed with us in 1999.  Line went on to work with Robin Hood at her Icelandic horse farm in Canada.

Maja from Denmark was with us from August to December 2005.

Carolla from Germany was with us from April to June 2007.  Carolla has since  married and gave birth to her first child in April 2008.   Here is a picture of Carolla riding Reisn at the British Championship show in Scotland.

Mathilde from Denmark was with us in July 2007.  Here is a picture of Mathilde with Reynir as a yearling

Katharina from Germany was here from January to April 2008.  Here she is riding Lotta.

Anna-Lisa from Sweden was with us in March 2008.

Melina from Germany and Jannicke from Denmark joined us in July 2008.  Jannicke was with us for a full year and left a very competent rider and horse manager.

We were pleased to welcome Mathilde from Denmark on her second visit in August 2009.  Mathilde was with us until the end of February 2010.

Hanne and Suzanna from the Netherlands were delayed by a week due to the Icelandic volcano ash cloud.   Eventually they arrived at the end of April and stayed until the end of June.   While they were here they did the basic ground work with the four year olds and rode out with the 5 and 6 year olds.  Hanne fell in love with Raena and Suzanna's favourite was Snerpa.

Kari arrived from Norway in August 2010and was here for a year.  During the year she attended the college in Kendal to take the Cambridge course English for Speakers of Other Languages.  Here she is with Lif's foal Iso.  Kari did exceptionall well in the English course and was awarded the prize for Best Student in her year.  Kari left us in August 2011 to start University in Norway.

Julia came from Germany and worked with us during July and August 2011.  She took over the training of Bassi from Kari and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of riding such a young horse.  Julia is now back in Germany studying International Economics.

Mathilde came back in September 2011 for another stint at Midfield.  Since she was last here, Mathilde  furthered her studies in Denmark and then took more time to travel and spent 4 months in Canada at the horse farm of Robyn Hood of TTEAM fame.  We are pleased to have Mathilde once again working with the young horses and she has brought even more horse handling skills with her to help our young horses to develop into confident riding horses.  Mathilde will be with us until July 2012 and she is attending the college in Kendal to gain the diploma in English.

Eva also arrived in September 2011 to join our team.  Eva is from Germany and she will be with us until March 2012.  Eva is a Biology graduate and she is with us to improve her English to help to further her scientific studies.

Here Eva is riding Svipur, a four year old gelding.  Eva did his preparatory groundwork prior to backing and then backed him.

We do not need anyone now until the end of April 2012.  We have a vacancy then during May, June and July.  We are fully covered during August and then need a second person from September 2012.
