Welcome to Midfield Farm
We are lucky to live in a lovely spot nestling in the Tebay valley in Cumbria. Our home originates from the 17th Century and was part of the Longdale Estate. It was a working sheep farm with a pedigree flock of fell sheep and we were lucky to buy it with 91 acres of mixed meadow, grazing land and rough grazing. As luck would have it we were then offered a further 36 acres of land adjacent to our own and we rapidly expanded into a 127 acre holding.

Our passion is breeding and training Icelandic Horses and we have thirty-six horses at home currently; from foals and in foal mares to riding horses at various stages of training and our own stallions. The horses all live out regardless of the weather. Foals are weaned within the herd and are socialized naturally by the older horses. They are all microchipped before weaning although as we have only a few a year, the chances of our mixing them up are not high. The land at Midfield is idyllic for the production of sure-footed horses. The grasses are an old fashioned mixture of low sugar types that the horse's digestive system is geared for. The land is well balanced for minerals ensuring that young horses get the minerals they need for strong skeletal development. The horses are kept in large enclosures with undulating ground, natural streams and ditches so they grow to learn how to negotiate natural obstacles while they are developing their social skills within the herd environment. Horses produced at Midfield definitely have a head start in life.

The Bachelor Boys - Stallions and gelding on the hill land We have owned horses for over thirty years and during the early 90s discovered the difficulties with saddle fit. After a great deal of research we decided to design our own saddle for our horses. This saddle is now made by an English Craftsman Saddler and it is available as the Trapezius Saddle. We can provide Trapezius saddles for sale. The current price is £1150.00.
